While root canals may be the most feared procedure in dentistry, modern advancements have made the root canal more of a routine operation that is quick and perfectly safe. Root canals are needed when an infection has reached the tissue inside the root of the tooth, causing an abscess, or infected base where the tooth normally hangs on to. First our dental team will take x-rays to see exactly where to infection is occurring. Then the infected tissue will be drilled out of the inside of the tooth, the area is cleaned, and then sealed with a material that will help prevent further infection. While root canals can be painful, they prevent the dentist from having to extract the tooth altogether.
